About the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers

The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers is the professional body for all members of the commercial shipping industry worldwide.

 

The Institute was founded in 1911 and awarded a Royal Charter in 1920.

 

The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers sets and examines the syllabus for membership, providing the shipping industry with highly qualified professionals.

 

The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers is the only internationally recognised professional body in the commercial maritime arena and it represents shipbrokers, ship managers and agents throughout the world.

 

We have 25 branches in key locations and 4,000 individual Members and Fellows.

 

Members of the Institute are committed to maintaining the highest professional standards across the shipping industry and, as part of a professional body, members enjoy the benefits of an enhanced career in the shipping industry.

Our international network

 

Members of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers are an internationally recognised network of shipping professionals who have proven knowledge, competence and understanding of the broad spectrum of shipping business and who continuously work to improve professional and ethical standards in the industry.

 

In the global shipping business our members often move from country to country and the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers provides international support through our 25 branches around the world. No matter which branch a member belongs to, they are encouraged to participate in the activities of the whole branch network. Branch events, courses, seminars and training sessions are open to all members across the world.

The Institute supports its international student body through the branch network and 15  International Teaching Centres.

The Institute's website is a key part of the network with a dedicated members' area. This allows members to search for contacts, companies and to access specialist industry information.
